What's your thought on GitHub getting owned by Microsoft?

By now, you may have already heard it. It’s all over the open source community and tech news. Bloomberg: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-03/microsoft-is-said-to-have-agreed-to-acquire-coding-site-github

I’m just interested in what’re your thoughts about this? Are you gonna migrate to gitlab :D? I personally am so confused by the overhaul.

I personally think people are overreacting. I mean, yeah, they fucked Skype up, but they are trying to get more dev-friendly (see VSCode and Linux on Windows). Also, they said nothing would change, so I’m staying for now.

Yeah, I think we just need to give them a chance to improve the platform and maybe is the outcome better for all developers.

We will see!

It will be interesting to see if they do anything to Atom. Especially because Microsoft have VS Code.

Practically everything Microsoft has ever created is garbage, and Microsoft ruined most things they bought. Most of their stuff collects way too much personal information. I no longer trust GitHub.

I used to enjoy Minecraft Pocket Edition (I’m cheap) before Microsoft ruined it. They put DRM in it so I can’t play it without having the Google Play Store installed on my device.

Personally, I think that Microsoft made some outstanding updates for Minecraft. And that was visible in the sales of Minecraft servers of a hosting provider where I used to work for.
